FUNERALS

If youhave recently lost a loved one, we would like to take this opportunity to sympathise with your loss.

Rose was drawn to Funeral Celebrancy as a number of her client’s families asked her to say a few words at their loved ones funeral.  Her next step was naturally to study how a funeral ceremony came together and what was required to “celebrate a life” before the final stages of a person’s journey out of this world.

Choosing a funeral celebrant is an important task. The next of kin must feel at ease and relate readily to the person chosen to conduct a funeral service. Rose is that celebrant who can bring to life a ceremony that you want.

THERE ARE NOT SHORT CUTS TO A BEAUITFUL FUNERAL

People today are looking for ways to personalize funeral and memorial ceremonies so they better reflect the person's life. My experience is that it is the ceremony, what words are said, who says them, and how they say it, is what really matters to people.

Whether it’s your funeral or someone else’s choose a celebrant first. The ceremony is the job of the celebrant; the Funeral Director does other important things but not the ceremony.

Questions to ask yourself when preparing a funeral:

Do you want a religious or non-religious funeral or a mixture of both?

Do you want an eulogy, who will read it?

If preparing your own funeral, write your own eulogy and put it in a safe place until it is required.

What sort of music do you want?

What poetry and prose do you like?

Do you want to be buried or cremated?

If you are to be cremated, what is to be done with your ashes?

Do you want a sub ceremony within the funeral eg lighting candles or letting balloons fly away?

As your funeral celebrant, I will personalize the ceremony with accuracy, warmth and meaning.  Usually I will visit the family at least twice before the funeral and speak with you before writing the ceremony and I encourage family members to pay their own tributes to the deceased.

At the heart of the ceremony, I will incorporate the hobbies, pastimes and passions of the individual we are remembering. All this can be done in a tasteful way that reflects the person's true nature. There are no rules as far as preparing a funeral ceremony goes, we can adapt to most situations.

I will make arrangements with the funeral director, the cemetery and crematorium regarding the time, location and all else involved in the funeral preparation.

The family is presented with a typed copy of the service.

Memorial services are often held to allow friends and family members to pay respects to their loved ones who may have died overseas or interstate.  These are very emotional and moving ceremonies.

Scattering of ashes - Sometimes I am called upon a few weeks after a funeral ceremony to assist the family to scatter ashes or place them in the ground.  A small brief ceremony is usually held.
