HOW CAN I MEMORIALIZE MY BABY?

Naming Ceremony/ RITE OF ANOINTING

Many health professionals encourage naming your baby. Again this is a personal decision. At Scarlet Ribbons your child's naming ceremony is specially composed for the occasion. We will work together to develop exactly the service you want. There is the opportunity for family members and friends to be 'honoured' by their inclusion in the ceremony by the reading of a poem or special verse.

Should you wish a Christian service we can provide the rite of anointing instead of Baptism.

Arrange a special farewell service or funeral

A farewell service for your baby can be a wonderful way of saying your final farewell. It can be totally non-religious or involve a little religion. Rosanna will conduct the ceremony in the way you or your loved one would like it to be carried out. You, other family members, friends, or even work colleagues, can take part in the ceremony if you wish. You may even want to conduct the ceremony yourselves, but have somebody like Rosanna standing by to take over in case you come across any problems.

The Ceremonies may be conducted in many different places such as hospital rooms, Chapels, gardens or even your own home.

Should you wish to have a funeral or use a Funeral Home, your Funeral Director will contact Rose, or else you can contact her direct with your plans, including the date and time of the funeral and where it will be held. There are many ways in which we can discuss the details for the ceremony – Initially, preferably by a home visit then by telephone, email or fax.

Scarlet Ribbons Ceremony

This ceremony is based on the traditional Zen Buddhist memorial service and allows participants to free themselves from staying paralysed by feelings of loss or failure, by fears and desires, by loves and hates.

The ceremony begins with forming a circle, sitting together in silence, and then sewing a bib or hat for one of the compassion figures on the altar. The altar figures represent different cultures and religious traditions: Jizo, Mary with Jesus.

We listen to those who wish to talk, we do not give advice, but simply listen while they light a candle or incense, dress the alter figure and say their goodbyes.

This is a very beautiful ritual, which symbolizes the interconnectedness of all things and experiences, and allows people regardless of their age, to express their feelings by acknowledging a particular life and death regardless of it’s gestation period.

A memorial service

It can be held anytime, even years after a death. Again this is a personal decision. Memorializing is an individual expression; it is something done to assist you in finding peace within.

Rose can help with arrangement, be it a religious service or civil ceremony.  She can give you ideas for flowers, planting a tree, photographs, memory books and boxes, music, locations etc.

God’s Lent Child.

“I’ll lend you for a little while
A child of mine” God said –
For you to love the while he lives
and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years
or forty two or three
but will you, till I call him back,
take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charms to gladden you
and, should his stay be brief,
you’ll have his nicest memories
as solace for his grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
but, there are lessons taught below,
I want this child to learn.

I’ve looked the whole world over,
in my search for teachers true,
and from the things that crowd life’s lane
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love,
nor think the labour vain,
nor hate me when I come to take
this lent child back again?

I fancied that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done”
for all the joys thy child will bring
the risk of grief will run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
we’ll love him while we may,
and for the happiness we’ve known
forever grateful stay.
But, should thy Angels call for him
much sooner than we planned,
we’ll brave the grief that comes
and try to understand.
